The Studio of La Californie - Pablo Picasso (1956)
I bought a poster of this from the exhibition last night. It was interesting, I didn’t realise he didn’t always do abstract looking art. (I obviously don’t know a lot about art!)
I really liked this picture, despite the fact its not very bright. I found that with a ot of the art last night, I liked the “duller” pieces.I also think its safe to say Picasso liked to drink, gamble and play music :)
I found it really interesting that he only died in the 1970’s, so some of his paintings and artworks were quite recent. The 70’s art was very decade specific!
According to the little booklet they gave us, it said this painting was completed at a good time of his life, and it seemed nice and chilled and happy. That, plus the palm trees were described as “jaunty,” so I was sold.
I am now incorporating the word jaunty into my everyday vernacular :)
